MISSION:

To encourage the study and enjoyment of the art, science, culture, and natural history of Thailand and its neighbours, making this knowledge and experiences more widely available to local and international communities, while safeguarding the country’s cultural heritage

ACTIVITIES AND SERVICES:

With regards to the mission, The Siam Society services members and non-members by;

• Opening a library that specialises in the fine arts, humanities, social sciences of Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia
• Conducting lectures regularly in English by a mix of speakers including authors, visiting scholars, leading experts, and enthusiasts.
• Publishing two journals; Journal of The Siam Society (JSS) – a wide range of disciplines including archaeology, epigraphy, history, ethnology, religion, language, literature, art and architecture, and performing arts; It has become one of the leading scholarly publications in Southeast Asia with its international outlook and articles of enduring value, and Natural History Bulletin of The Siam Society (NHBSS)
• Conducting study trips in Thailand, Asia, and other continents under the leadership of experts, including distinguished academics, specialists in local knowledge, and experts in fields ranging from heritage conservation to anthropology to botany.
• Opening Kamthieng House Museum, an example of a traditional northern Thai house, and within it is displayed a permanent ethnological exhibition that showcases the traditional beliefs and ideologies of the Lanna people.
• Founding Siamese Heritage Trust (SHT) section to raise the visibility of cultural heritage management as a national issue of general public interest; SHT highlights cultural heritage issues and generates ideas on how heritage management can be improved. Scope of interest covers vernacular and community culture and on cultural landscapes. SHT focuses its work on Knowledge, Education, Advocacy, and Networking.
