We are pleased to inform you that Southeast Asian Cultural Heritage (SEACHA) will hold a sixty-minute talk on “Talampam: A Project for Revitalizing Khmu Culture and Imagining a Sustainable Environment” presented by Lah Soukkaseum on Saturday, 29 October, at 10:00 (Bangkok, GMT+7) via Zoom webinar. This will be a MORNING tea time talk!
This talk introduces Talampam, a project to revitalize indigenous culture and promote sustainable development in Laos. The culture of Khmu indigenous people is deeply connected to nature, and the traditions of the past can help us imagine a sustainable future. Talampam aims to promote and help preserve Khmu identity, improve the situation of women and girls in rural Laos, and contribute to building a sustainable future. Talampam is a diverse team of young artists and traditional artisans that works together to design, create, and share handicrafts and clothing.

Speaker: Ms. Lah Soukkaseum
Lah is the founder of Talampam, and recently she became a Master’s student in Sustainable International Development at Brandeis University, USA. She has been working with government and non-profit organizations for about nine years in the field of policy development to promote sustainable cities, environmental issues, primary education, disaster risk reduction, women empowerment, emergency response, and against human trafficking. She was awarded the Lower Mekong Initiative Outstanding Alumni from the U.S Department of State for helping with disaster relief efforts and empowering women in her community.
Moderator: Ms. Tara Gujadhur
Tara is Co-Founder and Co-Director of the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre (www.taeclaos.org), a cultural heritage social enterprise dedicating to celebrating the cultural diversity of Laos. Tara has a BA in Anthropology and an MSc in Tourism, Environment, and Development, and over 20 years of experience in sustainable tourism, handicraft development, and cultural heritage management throughout Southeast Asia and Southern Africa. She has been based in Luang Prabang, Laos for the past 18 years.
